Frontier Forts - An Introduction

Fort Duquesne 3d Reconstruction - Phase 1Frontier Forts is a project developed to recreate some of Colonial America’s fortifications — aiming for a balance between historical accuracy and playability as an educational game. Players will be able to explore freely or embark on missions that challenge their orienteering and bartering skills.

Summary

Frontier Forts will use video game technology to engage players in the Pittsburgh region’s colonial past. Players will be able to explore regional forts on America’s early frontier and learn why Pittsburgh was a coveted location long before it grew into a center of industry and then technology. Children learning about Pennsylvania’s history, as well as adult history buffs, will have fun touring the digital replicas of the forts and their accouterments from their computers.

Frontier Forts aims for a balance between historical accuracy of culture at the time of the French and Indian War and playability as an educational game. At an introductory phase, players will be able to explore the fort freely. With further development of the game, players will be able to embark on missions that challenge their orienteering and bartering skills.

Phase 1 of the Fort Duquesne 3d Reconstruction (pictured above) is an overview of the environment in which a player would be placed and given the freedom to explore. Frontier Forts will be both fun and educational and based on the topic of the French and Indian War and the Pittsburgh region’s fortifications.
